My Work Experience

I have experience working in multiple roles as a photographer and videographer. I am currently the primary freelance photographer for the Seal Beach Sun, Catalina Islander, and Event-News Enterprise publications in the Los Angeles/Orange County region. My activity with these publications has consisted of shooting protests, sporting events, COVID-19 activity, and other current events for their online and paper publications since January 2019. I also spent a majority of 2020 diversifying my photography and video skills. This included working for a non-profit chruch organization, as I directed their team in creating daily and weekly online video productions. My freelance work has included everything filming and streaming online funeral services during the pandemic from photographing weddings and portraits; I love doing it all.

My photojournalism philosophy and workflow

I’ve always stressed the importance of editing all of my content to ensure the highest quality of work; however, my photojournalism philosophy focuses on capturing people and places in an authentic way. Authenticity in my news photography is important in establishing a genuine representation of the story. In an era where images and videos can be altered to convey alternative tones or false meanings, I make a point to ensure every edit I make holds true to the circumstance and environment that it was captured in.

The world of journalism revolves around creating interesting and accurate content, often in the backdrop of a strict timetable. Weekly and even daily publications often require writers and photographers to produce quality work on a tight schedule. To meet this demand, I leverage technology and information systems solutions to help decrease turnaround times while maintaining the quality of my work. I utilize a range of IT and software that helps accelerate my workflow, such as custom built networks and computers to efficiently meet short deadlines.
